Key to AV Festival’s philosophy is commissioning new work. The festival does not just act as a showcase for existing art, film and music. It acts as a catalyst for the production of new work, committing significant financial and human resources into commissioning artists, filmmakers and musicians to make new projects.
The first festival commissioned a major new film work by The Light Surgeons, several mini films by Richard Fenwick, and thirty other smaller works.
The second festival commissioned fifteen major new works, including new exhibitions by international artists, such as Ryoji Ikeda, Ken Rinaldo, Andy Gracie and Anthony McCall and others, moving image works by Gina Czarnecki, UMAMi, Claire Davies and others, and music works by :zoviet*france:, Suguru Goto and others.
