ARTISTS’ RESIDENCIES AND TALKS
Wed 23 – Fri 25 March 2016

Mirroring Orwell’s journey to the industrial North several artists are working in residency during the Festival: Mykola Ridnyi (Ukraine), Madhusudhanan (India) and Bianca Baldi (South Africa).

In partnership with Izolyatsia cultural platform and British Council, Ukrainian artist Mykola Ridnyi is in residence in Newcastle during the Festival. Ridnyi’s work is located within the current social and political reality of Ukraine and the development of contemporary neoliberalism in post-Soviet countries.

Bianca Baldi has undertaken an initial residency supported by Royal Over-Seas League and Hospitalfield. Her video installations reveal over-looked narrative strands and the hidden structures of power. She has begun researching Seaton Delaval Hall in South East Northumberland, focusing on the industrial development of the area.

Madhusudhanan is working on new large-scale charcoal drawings in the gallery during the Festival month as part of his ongong series The Marx Archive – Logic of Disappearance. At the end of his residency Madhusudhanan presents a special event at the gallery discussing his work.
