Silence follows the journey of a sound recordist returning to Ireland for the first time in 15 years, to record landscapes free from man-made sound. His quest takes him to remote terrain where he finds a more intangible silence, one that is bound up with the sounds of the life he left behind. Influenced by elements of folklore and archive, Silence unfolds with a quiet intensity, meditating on sound, silence, history, memory and exile.
We are delighted to welcome the filmmaker Pat Collins to Newcastle for the screening. He will be present for a Q&A with one of the film’s sound recordists Chris Watson.
This event is part of our Digging for Sound weekends of new commissions, concerts, films, and walks focusing on geology, topography, landscape and sound.
