AV Festival 14: Extraction opens with two evenings of FREE exhibition openings across Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

On Thu 27 February 2014 from 6–8pm we launch our two exhibitions in Middlesbrough at mima, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art and Platform A Gallery. The Festival curated group exhibition at mima focuses on the raw material of metal as an agent of global power, and includes work by Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc, Anja Kirschner & David Panos, Simon Starling and Hito Steyerl amongst others. The new installation by Rossella Biscotti & Kevin van Braak at Platform A Gallery references a bronze statue of the Russian coal miner Alexey Stakhanov.

A FREE return coach runs from Newcastle to Middlesbrough on Thu 27 February for the Festival launch in Middlesbrough. Only one place available per person, to book a seat email visit@avfestival.co.uk
