Saturday 3 March

SATURDAY 3 MARCH 2012

Our Opening Weekend focused on the durational through music and film across Newcastle and Gateshead.

The day began with a rare public talk by Festival artists Phill Niblock, Susan Stenger and Yoshi Wada, referencing the New York minimalist music scene. Followed by Jem Finer’s day-long live mix of Slowplayer, you could bring along your own vinyl records and hear them played.

Our film programme began with two screenings, introduced by the filmmakers. The Art of Time explores how leading artists are inventing new notions of time. The UK premiere of James Benning’s Nightfall is a study of real-time light changing from day to night.

The evening highlight was Lament for John Cage, a concert at The Sage Gateshead featuring six extraordinary performances marking the Cage 100 anniversary.

All of our Exhibitions were open today.

Radio Boredcast was online 24-hours today, see the daily schedule below for 3 March 2012.
