AV FESTIVAL 12: MUSIC & LIVE PERFORMANCE

Our music programme ran across four special weekends in Newcastle and Gateshead. Leif Inge’s 24-hour performance 9 Beet Stretch was part of our 24 Hour Launch from Thu 1 – Fri 2 March 2012.

The Opening Weekend from Fri 2 – Sun 4 March 2012 included UK premieres by leading musicians focused on duration and minimalism, plus tributes to John Cage and Hanne Darboven. Including: Phill Niblock, Susan Stenger, Yoshi Wada, Tashi Wada, Rhodri Davies, Robert Poss and Kenneth Goldsmith.



The Equinox Music Weekends included newly commissioned work marking the time shift from spring to summertime. Starting with a remembrance event to Peter Christopherson, including Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti. Followed by Attila Csihar, The Caretaker, Forest Swords, :zoviet*france: and Steven Stapleton.

Highlights included: newly commissioned work by Yoshi Wada involving the City of Newcastle Pipeband; new work by Phill Niblock for performance by Rhodri Davies; the UK premiere of Hanne Darboven’s Requiem; and site-specific work by Attila Csihar and Steven Stapleton.
