AV Festival 12 opened with 24 continuous hours of exhibition openings and events across the North East.
Starting in Middlesbrough from 6pm-9pm with three exhibitions at mima and Platform A of work by John Gerrard, Cyprien Gaillard and James Benning.
The night continued in Newcastle with a marathon 24-hour performance starting at midnight of Leif Inge’s 9 Beet Stretch: Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony stretched to 24 hours.
The Festival opened with the As Slow As Possible symposium at mima, exploring ideas of slowness and resistant temporalities in contemporary art and culture with guest speakers philosopher Eric Alliez, culture and music critic Paul Morley, performance art specialist and writer Laura Cull, and film theorist and philosopher John Mullarkey, plus Festival artists.
