AV Festival 06 included eight performances across Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, including two UK premieres and three new commissions.

Performances included work by: Ryoji Ikeda, alva noto (Carsten Nicolai), Michael Nyman, Suguro Goto, D-Fuse, Neil Bromwich and Zoe Walker, :zoviet*france: and NAME.

Highlights included: the newly commissioned large-scale performance data.matrix by Ryoji Ikeda exploring the relationship between data and nature; alva noto’s acclaimed Transall study of electronic glitches; Michael Nyman’s new, specially commissioned concert about biotechnology and cloning; and Suguro Goto’s orchestra of virtual robotic instrumentalists.
