AV Festival 06 featured 13 exhibitions and installations across Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, including six UK premieres and five new commissions.

Exhibitions included work by: Anthony McCall, Gina Czarnecki, Kenneth Rinaldo & Matt Howard, Andy Gracie & Brian Lee Yung Rowe, Oron Catts & Ionat Zurr, Marius Watz, Suguro Goto, Time’s Up, Claire Davies, Katy Dove, Helena Swatton and James Hutchinson.

Highlights included: a newly commissioned exhibition by Anthony McCall inspired by the North East coastal landscape; Gina Czarnecki’s first outdoor installation exploring human genetics; Suguro Goto’s orchestra of virtual robotic instrumentalists; Andy Gracie’s artificial intelligence water garden; and Kenneth Rinaldo’s robotic spiders.
