Peter Greenaway, The Tulse Luper Suitcases, 2003

This was an exclusive festival cut of the first instalment of Peter Greenaway’s vast and ambitious project to tell the intriguing and roguish life story of Tulse Luper. His life is catalogued through his possessions, compiled in 92 suitcases and in turn his odyssey expands to become a history of the 20th century, of competing ideologies and, in particular, of Uranium. Peter Greenaway is one of the UK’s most compelling filmmakers, whose film career is built on a string of innovative and controversial films from The Draughtsman’s Contract to The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover  to The Pillow Book
