AV Festival and The Sage Gateshead presented The Cinematic Orchestra’s Man with a Movie Camera live in the abandoned old Odeon (Paramount) Cinema building on Pilgrim Street, Newcastle.

The Cinematic Orchestra fuse jazz and club culture with cinema through a thoroughly modern sampler-generation attitude. They were commissioned in 2000 by Porto, European City of Culture, to create a new live music score to Dziga Vertov's brilliant 1929 documentary Man With A Movie Camera. The result is a performance every bit as dazzling as this amazing abstract film, which portrays a day in the life of an idealised society; starting with people waking up in the morning, working, relaxing and eventually going into the cinema to watch Dziga Vertov’s film of them.

Followed by an after party with DJ Raj Pannu and Transmission Visuals.
