Michael Gondry, Human Nature, 2001

Written by Charlie Kaufmann of Being John Malkovich and Adaptation fame, this odd-ball comedy boasts a superb cast: Tim Robbins is a scientist with an unhealthy obsession with perfect manners trying to ‘civilize’ a wildman (Rhys Ifans), found living in the woods, assisted by Patricia Arquette, an abnormally hairy lady novelist who is torn between her desire to be normal and her true nature. This is the very funny and very strange feature film debut of French music-video-genius Michel Gondry. Screenings took place on Fri 14 November 2003 at Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle and on Wed 19 November at Kino, Middlesbrough.

Plus onedotzero_ne Gondry Forever! A retrospective collection of Gondry’s hugely influential music videos, from his start making experimental promo films for his own group Oui Oui through to the White Stripes’ Fell in Love with a Girl via Bjork, Daft Punk, Massive Attack and more.
