Wet Sounds

AV Festival 10 and Sunderland Aquatic Centre present Wet Sounds,a deep listening experience at the underwater sound art gallery.

Normal swimming admission price, no advance booking required

Audience are invited to float or dive through water immersed in sound. Sound travels 4.5 times quicker in water than in air, it is perceived through the bones as well as through the ears and sounds clear, detailed and close. People who are hard of hearing are invited to listen to sound textures in clarity they may never before have experienced.

The 2-hour session features sound artworks made for underwater listening by international artists, mixed live by Joel Cahen, into a collage of location recordings, sound effects and music.

The experience is of deep listening, relaxation and giving an extraordinary sense of displacement in the familiar surrounding of Sunderland Aquatic Centre. Goggles are recommended.
