Will Schrimshaw creates a new installation that manipulates the acoustic signature of the Tyne Bridge’s vast North Tower. Based on the idea that buildings emit a recognisable acoustic energy, Space Against Itself manipulates soundwaves from the tower itself to occupy and saturate the frequencies at which the building is normally heard. During a looped cycle, the shifting sounds create the uncanny sense that the space is closing-in on you.

Commissioned by AV Festival 10. Supported by Culture Lab and Newcastle City Council.
