This double bill features two classic global disaster films from the 1960s and 1970s. First up is The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961) screening at 7pm (98 mins) a journalist notices temperatures rise in London, discovering that simultaneous nuclear tests in Cold War USA and USSR have sent the earth on its axis, causing rapid warming. Silent Running (1972) screening at 9pm (89 mins) , directed by a special effects supervisor on 2001: A Space Odyssey, is set in a future where all plant life on earth is dead; an ecological space warrior sets off on a solo mission to save the earth.
