Japanese musician and visual artist Atsuhiro Ito is the original creator of the Optron, a unique musical instrument made from fluorescent lights fitted with guitar pick-up microphones. When the voltage applied to the tubes is altered, the electromagnetic noise and flickering light are perfectly synchronised and amplified. This delicate flickering creates a powerful visual hallucination, in which nonexistent colours and patterns emerge.
He will be joined by Kanta Horio. Horio performs using physical phenomena with electronic devices, kinetic objects and assorted self-built gadgets, including electromagnets and paper clips! He also organises events including Dorkbot Tokyo an event for people doing strange things with electricity. Horio studied acoustics and sound art and the Kyushu Institute of Design in Fukuoka, Japan.
Produced by No-Fi. Supported by The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and Japan Foundation.
