We are looking for a team of dedicated, motivated and enthusiastic volunteers from across the whole North East region to get involved with all aspects of AV Festival 12. There are many different ways to be involved with AV Festival 12 through the volunteer programme – the diverse skills, knowledge and interests of our volunteer team will help shape the Festival. The success of the festival depends on the astounding support of our volunteers.
Volunteer Requirements
We are looking for volunteers who wish to develop practical skills and experience within a Festival environment, we are looking for people:
- from all backgrounds, at least 18 years of age
- who are able to commit to a minimum of 5 shifts during the festival
- who are enthusiastic, committed and flexible
- who are confident, outgoing and friendly with good communication skills
- know the North East region
- have an interest in contemporary culture and a knowledge of current contemporary art, film and music
The volunteer programme is ideally suited for those wishing to develop a career within the cultural sector or events management, to develop new skills, extend networks and contacts, improve employability or simply to meet likeminded people and ultimately be part of an exciting, creative Festival programme. We hope to provide each volunteer with a unique experience of the Festival, tailored to suit their skills, interests and passions allowing each volunteer to get the most of their AV Festival 12 experience.
Volunteer Roles
Here are some of the main roles that Festival volunteers can get involved in, if you have any particular interests in certain areas of the Festival or experience you think is relevant please let us know and we will do our best to match your skills and experience to your role as a Festival volunteer.
Festival Guides:
To develop and deliver a programme of tours for the Festival.
Events and Exhibitions:
Taking responsibility for Festival hospitality, ticketing, ushering, invigilation and assisting the Festival team at previews, openings and VIP events.
Technical:
Helping with the installation, running and take-down of exhibitions and events (this may require commitment prior to and post the Festival).
Promotion and Market Research:
Promotional support, e-marketing, social media support and conducting audience research.
Time Commitment
You will be expected to attend a number of training sessions between January and March 2012, the volunteer team will operate for the most part throughout March, in the week and primarily at weekends. You must be able to commit to a minimum of 5 shifts during the Festival in March 2012.
To Apply
The deadline to apply to become an AV Festival 12 Volunteer as now passed, however there is still the opportunity to take part in the festival as a participant in both On Kawara: One Million Years and Hamish Fulton: Slowalk.
