Rebecca Shatwell, Director
Rebecca has worked in the visual arts sector for 12 years. She was previously Media Arts Officer at Arts Council England, North East; Events Programmer at CCA, Glasgow; and Curator at Pavilion, Leeds. She founded alt.gallery, an independent space for sound art in 2006 and has been Director of AV Festival since 2008.
Rebecca Morrill, Producer
Rebecca is a curator and writer based in Gateshead. In addition to her role at AV Festival she is Head of Collector Development, North East for the Contemporary Art Society. She previously worked for five years at the Serpentine Gallery, London as Exhibition Curator and in various exhibition and marketing roles at Whitechapel Gallery.
Iain Pate, Producer
Iain is a freelance producer and curator with an interest in site-specific, sound, and moving image work. For six years he worked as Programme Manager at Forma Arts and Media developing and touring interdisciplinary projects worldwide. In addition to his role at AV Festival he runs Modern Empire, working with artists to produce limited edition prints.
Tom Cullen, Technical Manager
Tom has worked with AV Festival since 2006, he previously worked as technical manager for venues including Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and FACT. He currently runs ArtAV a technical service to the UK art industry, working with some of the worlds leading artists and venues.
Jo Wilson, Communications Manager
Jo has over 20 years experience in arts marketing. Her most recent position was as the founding Head of Marketing for Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. In 2007 she began working freelance with projects including the Big Art Project with Channel 4, dott07 with The Design Council, and mima (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art).
Peter Merrington, PhD Researcher & Communications Coordinator
Peter is an artist and researcher currently undertaking an AHRC-funded collaborative doctoral award with AV Festival and the School of Arts & Cultures at Newcastle University. His research seeks to critically examine festival curatorial practice, with a focus on the analysis and development of site-responsive strategies. Previous to this Peter worked for the Liverpool Biennial.
Janette Scott, PR Consultant
Janette is a freelance communications consultant working with clients in visual arts, digital media, film and other creative sectors. She was formerly Head of Communications at Artangel working on projects including Roger Hiorns' Seizure, Gregor Schneider's Die Familie Schneider and the development of www.artangel.org.uk. Prior to Artangel, Janette was Head of Marketing and Development at The Photographers' Gallery.
Charlie Gregory, Volunteer and Participation Coordinator
Charlie is an artist and arts co-ordinator based in Newcastle. In addition to her role at AV Festival she is Project Co-ordinator at ISIS Arts, a visual and media arts organisation and also works as an artist assistant. Charlie has previously worked for Wunderbar Festival 11.
Nicola Singh, Training and Participation Coordinator
Nicola is an artist and curator based in Newcastle upon Tyne. She has previously worked and performed with Prague Quadrennial Festival of Theatre and Design, AV Festival 10, Modular Projects, The Freud Museum, Battersea Arts Centre, Bristol Arnolfini and The Whitechapel Gallery. Nicola is coordinator of Wunderbar Festival, associate director of Tender Buttons performance company and a member of the curatorial committee at The NewBridge Space.
O-SB Design, Designer
Established in 2002 by Anne Odling-Smee, O-SB is a London based design consultancy working in the arts, science and education with experience in the commercial sector. Client list includes Artangel, Tate, South London Gallery and Serpentine Gallery, and work includes books, print, magazines and identities.
Martin Horrocks, Finance Manager
Martin joined Tyneside Cinema as Finance Manager in 2009. He has 30 years of experience managing finances for a diverse range of organisation in both the commercial and charitable sectors. These range from marine engineers, international cable and carpet manufacturers to small voluntary sector organisations.
